Dating After Divorce:
Ready to start again? Let's make sure you do it right.
Dating after divorce is a completely different experience to anything you have done before. The apps are new, the rules have changed, and you are carrying more history than last time. A private coaching session with James Preece helps you navigate all of it - with confidence, clarity, and a real plan.
What you get
Everything in your £200 coaching session
Dating after divorce is not just about meeting new people - it is about understanding yourself, your patterns, and what you actually want this time around. Your session covers all of it, practically and honestly.
Readiness check
We work out together whether you are genuinely ready to start dating again - and if not, exactly what to focus on first so you do not waste time or get hurt.
Dating profile review
If you are on the apps, I will review your profile and photos live and tell you honestly what to change. Starting with a strong profile makes everything else easier.
Pattern diagnosis
I will help you understand what went wrong before and how to avoid repeating the same patterns - so you make better choices this time, not just different ones.
Clear action plan
You leave with specific, practical next steps tailored to where you are right now - not generic tips. Something you can act on the same week.
Does this sound like where you are?
Dating after divorce is harder
than anyone tells you it will be.
You went into your marriage expecting it to last. Now you are back at the start - except you are not the same person, the dating world is completely different, and nobody has given you a guide for any of it. Here is what I hear every week from people in exactly your position.
I do not even know if I am ready to date again. But I also do not want to spend the next five years alone waiting to feel ready.
The apps feel completely alien. I never had to date like this before and I have no idea what I am doing or whether I am doing it right.
I am terrified of making the same mistakes again. What if I just end up in another relationship that does not work?
My confidence has taken a real hit. I do not feel attractive or interesting and I cannot imagine anyone genuinely wanting to be with me.
Your coach
Hi, I am James Preece - The Dating Guru
I have been a dating coach for over 21 years and a large proportion of the people I work with are navigating dating after divorce. It is one of the most common situations I deal with - and one of the most specific. The challenges you face when you are re-entering the dating world after a long relationship are genuinely different to anything a 25-year-old faces, and they require genuinely different advice.
I work independently and alongside many of the UK's leading dating agencies, which means I can give you completely honest guidance on every option available to you - the apps, matchmakers, coaching, or a combination. No agenda, no hard sell, just an honest assessment of what will actually work for your situation.
I host the Love Machine Podcast - over 315 episodes of expert dating advice - and run the Dating Academy for single professionals serious about finding love. Whether you are a few months out of your divorce or a few years, a coaching session is the clearest, fastest way to get the right plan.

What clients say
Real results for people dating after divorce
I was terrified of starting again after 18 years of marriage. James did not give me fluff or false reassurance - he gave me a clear plan and the confidence to actually follow it. I am now in a serious relationship.
I had been divorced for two years and had got absolutely nowhere on the apps. James looked at my whole approach, not just my profile, and completely changed how I was thinking about it. Best money I have spent.
I kept attracting the same type of person as my ex. James helped me understand why - and how to break the pattern properly. That insight alone was worth ten times the session cost.

Common questions
What people dating after divorce usually ask me first
How do I know if I am ready to start dating after divorce?
Honestly, most people never feel 100% ready - and waiting until you do often means waiting forever. The better question is whether you are emotionally stable enough to handle the inevitable uncertainty of dating without it derailing you. That is one of the first things we work through on the call. If you are not ready yet, I will tell you honestly - and tell you what to focus on first.
How long after divorce should I wait before dating again?
There is no universal answer - it depends entirely on the individual, the length of the marriage, and how the divorce went. Some people are ready after six months, others need two or three years. What matters more than the timeline is where your head is at. A coaching session helps you figure that out clearly rather than guessing.
The dating apps feel completely overwhelming. Where do I even start?
This is one of the most common things I hear from people dating after divorce in the UK. The apps have changed enormously and if you have not used them before, the learning curve is real. We can go through the whole thing together - which apps are worth your time, how to build a profile that works, and how to approach conversations so you are meeting the right people rather than just anyone.
I am worried about repeating the same mistakes. Can coaching actually help with that?
Yes - and this is one of the most valuable parts of a coaching session for someone coming out of a divorce. Understanding your patterns - why you chose who you chose, what you were getting from it, and what warning signs you missed - is the fastest way to make sure you make genuinely better choices next time rather than just different ones.
Should I use a dating agency instead of the apps?
It depends on your situation, your budget, and what you are looking for. Dating agencies can be excellent for people who are serious about finding a relationship and want a more curated, personal experience - but they vary enormously in quality and cost. Because I work alongside many dating agencies independently, I can give you completely unbiased advice on whether an agency is right for you and, if so, which ones are worth considering.
I have children. Does that make dating harder?
It adds complexity, but it does not make it impossible - far from it. A large number of my clients are single parents and many of them go on to find excellent relationships. What it does change is how you manage your time, how much you tell early dates, and when you introduce someone to your children. All of that is worth thinking through carefully, and a coaching session is a good place to do it.
