Signs of Flirting: How to really tell if someone likes you
Signs of flirting are everywhere but it’s not always easy to spot them. As a Dating Coach, I often work with some very confused singles who can’t decipher the signals.
Imagine a world where people just told you straight up how they felt, and everyone knew exactly where they stood with each other? Now let’s travel back to reality, where no one knows what the heck anyone is really thinking (my best friend might actually hate me), and love and dating is one big unpredictable guessing game. Yeesh!
Finding someone to like is the easy part, but how do you know if your crush actually likes you back? Luckily there are telltale signs which can show you exactly how they feel through body language alone:
The eyes
Long fixed stares and dilated pupils say a lot about how your date sees you. Friends don’t tend to have that ‘look’ in their eye as if to say “mmm, I could eat you right now”. Basically, If you feel like you’re a big juicy steak, your in! Love experts say that if your crush is making a ‘‘flirting triangle’ which goes between your eyes and your mouth then they probably can’t stop thinking about kissing you.
Self grooming
Is she constantly fiddling with her hair or checking her lipstick hasn’t smudged? Is he always smoothing down his shirt or fiddling with his watch? If someone is interested in you they want to look their best at all times, without fail. So self grooming is one of the most common signs of flirting.
The floor up checkout
Once your date has greeted you, they’ll be tempted to give you the once, twice or three times over (secretly of course). Starting with your feet, he or she will subtly work their way up past your crotch and chest back to your face. Keep an eye out for these secret scans and how often they happen. The more the better.
Getting close
Its always a great sign if he or she moves in closer to you during the date. They might lean in over dinner or rest closer to you in the cinema. An even more obvious sign is if they want to hold hands or hug, a guarantee that lust is on their menu.
The smile
The smile says it all and is one of the biggest signs of flirting. If someone is genuinely happy to be in your presence they will look happy. When you’re happy you smile, and if there is a lot of smiling then that person must be very happy. Team that smile with all the previous signs and its obvious that feelings are mutual.
The next time you go on a date, analyse their body language just as much as their words. By the end, you’ll have a good idea of where you stand and if another date is on the cards.
I really wish that it were this easy but I haven’t found it to be. And actually most guys would think that I’m interested in them if they went by these I have a tendency to smile at everybody and make eye contact because I was told that’s what a good listener does. I also have a tendency to play with my hair…
I think that these can be cues but just because a member of the opposite sex does these, doesn’t mean they are definitely interested.
I’ve also heard that mimicking body language and physical contact are good signs.
You are right to an extent – many men assume all women are interested in them regardless!
The secret for a guy is to look for a chain of signals all in quick succession. That’s the only way to be sure.
There’s nothing wrong with smiling at everyone and making eye contact…but are you actually flirting with the ones you fancy?
