Have you ever heard of a video date? If not, you’re certainly not alone! Most people have never considered a virtual date over the internet…until now. Those who have participated in such events are usually in long-distance relationships. Unfortunately, everyone is in a long-distance relationship at the moment. This pandemic has caused an increase in couples moving in together or finding different ways to connect. The good news is, there are other methods of connecting with someone that don’t involve being physically close. Long-distance partners have shed light on how to cope with dating during the pandemic.
The most common suggestion is sharing a video based date. This involves using a third-party website, such as Skype, Zoom or Facebook Messenger to enjoy a video call. Many dating apps have started to update their apps to offer a similar experience, but right now, it’s limited. Video dating could easily become the new “first date” idea, and here are a few reasons why:
Comfort and Convenience
One of the things that makes most people nervous about a first date is getting ready. You want to make sure you’re presenting yourself properly. You want to smell good, dress well. Mostly, you want everything to go smoothly. When it comes to video dating, you can sit in your pajamas if you want to. You still want to try to make a good first impression but now there is less pressure to do so. This means you can truly feel comfortable in your skin.
Video Dating Saves Money
A first-date should never be expensive. When you’re trying to impress someone, you might go overboard. Right now, since you can’t meet up in person, you don’t have to worry about spending anything. Instead, you can call up your date and enjoy a virtual dating experience. This is without spending a penny! If money is an issue, this could have a huge benefit for you. You could continue to try first-dates over video even after the pandemic is over! Just tell everyone you meet online that you loved the video date and want to keep doing it.
Safety
There’s no question that video dating is a safer alternative to meeting in person, especially right now. There is no risk of contracting germs or infections. You also don’t have to worry about being physically close to someone. For instance, the first kiss. You don’t have to worry about that when you’re ending a video call. There are other issues that video dating eliminates. You don’t have to worry about being somewhere public, somewhere safe. You don’t have to worry about who you might run into. You are in the comfort of your own home and you are completely safe.
Creativity
One of the best things about video dating is that you can truly use your creativity. You’re able to plan almost any activity together over the phone. You can cook a meal together and vote on which one looks more appealing. You can watch a Netflix movie or series together. You can even play the HouseParty app, which allows you to be connected while having fun. There are dozens of options for video dating and you don’t even have to leave the house!
